PJO: The Sea of Monsters - Rick Riordan

So I haven't posted in a while, here's a Sea of Monsters review for you!

Synopsis:

Percy is currently in 7th grade and all has been well that year. But that was until the last day of school, let me keep this short and say, cannibal giants were what happened. Then Tyson, Percy new and possibly only friend, and Annabeth went to the rescue. After that, you wouldn't expect things to get much worse, but when you're a demigod, happy endings rarely happen. Camp Half-Blood's borders were poisoned by an unknown enemy and unless a cure is found, the only safe haven for the demigods will be destroyed. In this thrilling second installment of the PJO series, Percy and his friends journey into the Sea of Monsters in hopes to find the one thing that can save the Camp. Besides that, Percy uncovers family secrets that'll lead him to questioning whether being claimed as Poseidon's son was indeed an honor or a cruel joke.

Review:

I always have trouble reading second books in a trilogy or a series but this book was by far, one of the easier to read second installments, it wasn't my fave in the series but nevertheless it was great. Percy and his friends had to escape from Camp and embark on a perilous quest to save Grover and find the Golden Fleece and bring it back safely to Camp (well for a demigod nothing is really safe). That, and he's dealing with having a Cyclops (Tyson), who was his only friend during seventh grade, as a brother. Mind you, their quest wasn't at all supervised by the Camp because Clarrisse was chosen to do it by the new Camp Director, Tantalus. Oh, how I loathe him. We also find out that Luke, a few other demigods, and monsters were trying to raise Kronos, and I repeat Kronos, from the dead.

In this book, we see Percy in action on his home turf, the ocean, and of course, he's a boss at it. Percy wasn't the star of this quest because Clarissse was but honestly, I could see the tiniest hint that she actually respects him (in some crazy way or another). Percy proves dignity, courage, strength and fairness in this book. Their teamwork and slight acceptance of each other made the biggest difference in the Rescue Camp Borders Operation.

Prophecy explanation time!

You shall sail the  iron ship with warriors of bone,
You shall find what you seek and make it your own,
But despair for your life entombed within stone,
And fail without friends, to fly home alone.

So Clarisse sailed the ship given to her by father, Ares. Mind you, this ship is manned by skeletal confederates. She along with Percy and his friends found the Fleece but in the end, Percy gave it to her because after all, it was her quest. She was "entombed within stone" because she was trapped in the cave where Polyphemus stone cavern with no way to escape. She would have failed without Percy and his friends but she flew home alone in order to save the tree.

I'll be reviewing The Titan's Curse maybe this weekend or later.
